EXProt (database for EXPerimentally verified Protein functions) is a non-redundant secondary database containing protein sequences for which the function has been experimentally verified. It is a selection of proteins which are described to have an experimentally verified function, from Pseudomonas Community Annotation Project, from E. coli genome and proteome database, AmiGO from Gene Ontology and from division Prokaryotes of the EMBL Nucleotide Sequence Database. In order to further poulate EXProt we started the project Fetchprot. For Fetchprot the goal is to automatically find, assess, and gather information about proteins with experimentally verified functions, from scientific texts within the areas of molecular biology and bio-chemistry. This will be carried out by developing and applying language technology, and to build infrastructure and knowledge bases to make this information accessible and manageable.
